SAMPLE CLASSES

For individual students, John sometimes offers potential students a free twenty-minute sample class. This gives prospective students a chance to experience John’s teaching approach, and it gives John an idea of what the students’ level and needs are, before a final determination is made as to location of classes, frequency, and payment levels.

John will soon be offering free sample Spanish, Portuguese, English as a Second Language classes once a month at the main building of the Oak Park Public Library, located near the corner of Lake Street and Oak Park Avenue. Keep visiting this site or check with the Oak Park Public Library [www.oppl.org] or contact us by e-mail for scheduled sample classes.

TYPES OF CLASS ARRANGEMENTS

  • Individual classes at learner’s home or workplace
  • Individual classes at John’s home or at Oak Park Public Library
  • Group classes at John’s home
  • Group classes at institutions or businesses
  • Private family classes in homes for parents and children jointly

LEVELS OF INSTRUCTION

Beginners, intermediate students, and advanced learners of all ages are welcome. We have had good success with students as young as four, although not all children this young can take language classes. Beginner students will do much more responding to “orders” in the target language with body movements, by pointing or touching objects on a table, by taking other actions such as opening or closing a magazine or cutting another students’ hair with imaginary scissors, or by saying things. Advanced students will do more conversation and reading of real literature in the target language, with frequent discussion of grammatical points and much checking of dictionary definitions.

FEES

Fees are negotiable and can vary according to distance, frequency of classes desired, number of students per class, and income level of persons desiring instruction.  Please contact us to get an idea of the level at which John would like to be supported in different types of classes.
